We’re still waiting for the price of artichokes to reflect that they’re in season but I really can’t wait to get me some. Usually we eat them steamed with some sort of butter dipping substance. Often it’s just some butter and salt but it really can’t hurt to get fancy every once in a while.
It’s now exactly one week until my contract ends in this job. The feelers are out and the applications have been sent and the interviews they have begun. I am so excited about a potential change in job that the only thing that has killed my joy is remembering all the stuff I’ll need to get in order before I leave if things work out. I’m really hoping I won’t have to sign my next contract in the middle of it all.
And because there are things to be done I had to procrastinate at least a little to make sure that I felt productive for at least part of my day. So I’ve been very busy punching holes into old papers and putting them into binders, buying comic books and graphic novels, organizing the folders on my work computer, browsing the latest literature on Amazon.com, eating lunch… Well attempting to, anyways.
I decided to start my lunch with the salad that some family member had packed yesterday and not taken to work/school. It seemed like a perfectly nice salad. I put in some dressed and shook up the container and then tried a bite. Tasted… not right. Not rotten but not like salad. It tasted like chili peppers. I don’t like chili peppers. And as I ate a few more bites the worse it got and the more I thought to myself: Worst Salad Day Ever…
And thus I ceased eating the salad and drank a bottle of water to try and get the taste out of my mouth. Still not sure what was going on there. I can eat hot foods but I really don’t like the flavor. Especially in my salad. Now, if only buying a new salad to go along with my lunch break of buying new comic books were easy across the board. a few clicks here a password linked to a debit card there and viola! Salad!
But it seems that salad is not to be on the menu today… Sigh. And I was really looking forward to that.
I love all the ingredients in this pile of loveliness. My dad has been “planning” a permanent outdoor grill out back but I think that I will I need to get myself in gear to do it myself. And that fire pit he’s been promising me for several years now. Fire pit! Fire pit!
I know I’ve been on a really good vegetarian roll for a while but then I saw this and then I just broke down… Sometimes I really just crave a real burger. And this one has done it for me. I’m not craving it right now but knowing of the existence of such a thing and thoroughly undone me. I have never made my own burgers but I do know how it is done. There is nothing standing in my way from this awesomeness! Well perhaps still being rather unwell might but I will be better soon (I have determined!) and then I shall grill… Grill, baby! Grill!
Enjoy the lovely weather these days, Foodie Nation, for they will not last long and then will settle in the great DC heat full of muggy grossness that makes you want to sit in an ice bath and end it all.
May is one of those odd months. Sometimes the weather is already muggy and gross and all you want to do is sit in a cool pool of water alternating between sipping fancy drinks with umbrellas and licking something frozen. But sometimes it’s still nice and cool out and it still feels like what we think spring should feel like in our minds. So for this month’s GastroPorn Menu I’m going to go with something light that can feel cool enough to battle the heat but can also keep us feeling light enough to go run around and warm up enough to maybe just need a sweater.
Gastroporn Menu – May.2013
How many of you actually remembered that April is National Grilled Cheese Month? How many of you think it should be moved to a more appropriate month? Like January of February… Hmmm? Yeah. Think how much sexier it would be to get (and eat) a grilled cheese on V-Day.
Well I didn’t come up with April for this fantabulous food of amazing but someone did and I’ve been honoring those who made up foodie holidays before me. But I think that me and my Foodie Nation need to make a few changes here and move the month long celebration to a month where we’re not thinking about bathing suits and getting tanned in places that haven’t seen the sun in a while. But in all fairness, grilled cheese is amazing all year round and always will be. So here is my compilation of all the grilled cheese sandwiches I have seen and approved of this month:
This recipe actually uses homemade beer bread so heck yeah I approve.
BS’ In the Kitchen kept up with the Grilled Cheese Month a lot better than I did so check out the site for even MORE.
Check out the link to see all the “how to” photos that go along with the recipe.
There are also some “how-to” photos with this one and it’s made on a bagel. I like bagels.
