This morning on the way to work we were a bit early so decided to make a quick stop at a Whole Foods so my chauffeur could pick up some salad for breakfast. Meanwhile, I traipsed right up to the chocolate aisle and browsed for a bar to keep on my desk to nibble on during the day. Because once I get started on my spreadsheets I get up to refill my coffee in the break room and go to the bathroom. Having a lunch break is for those who don’t know what properly organized data looks like.
And in times like these there was only one chocolate bar that could do the job…
I’m not a fan of most chocolates over 65% cacao. This one is 45% and milk chocolate, which I find to be smoother and more enjoyable on a regular chocolate day as opposed to a time that calls for slightly more drastic measures. And unlike a lot of other chocolates this one has a balanced flavor as opposed to these over the top, teeth grittingly sweet options you usually find out there.
And of course in the process of finding good quality photos of the bar of chocolate that kept me and my cubicle mates company all afternoon I found out there’s a place called “Barcelona” in DC that I know need to try out when the weather is more forgiving to one’s human sensitivities.

I don’t do New Years resolutions. If you aren’t going to take charge of you life all the time then you aren’t doing it right. Doing what right? One might ask. Life. You’re not doing it right. Try again.
Just so you know… I’m not skinny and I’m not “eating great” while “losing weight”. Except that eating great bit. I try to do that whenever possible. So here’s a little snack I found while looking around the great wide web of the internet after work today. I feel like this would also work great with a goat cheese/rosemary/honey combo.
And while we’re at it, how about a drink? Something warm and creamy, perhaps?

It is getting far too hot outside for my tastes. Mid-90’s and the humidity is on the rise. I keep forgetting every spring that my hair does not do well in humidity and so I don’t preemptively get it cut in time for the great *poof* that becomes my hair in the DC summers. And in addition to that the temperature of one’s food can make a difference to the comfort levels in this god-awful heat.
I love Thanksgiving and Christmas because I often associate the two holidays with a large amount of cooking and eating and partying. I’m not the greatest fan on the patriotic holidays because the types of foods do not create insane food memories of intense bliss in my head. But there are still foods that can excite my palate during the summer holidays… Here is a menu with a few of them along with a couple new items I’m keen to try this month:

Some time ago, back during the aftershocks of almost ending up in a very bad situation in Chad, I went with my mom to Jaleo in DC with another lady who was giving me tips on getting a job in foreign aid. My resume looks good for that type of work. Unfortunately I know I would hate it. I love traveling. I love helping others. And I really do want to be of use to the world. But that just really isn’t my niche.
All that personal junk aside… I remember that when we were there the most interesting thing on the menu for us was the “Olive Oil Ice Cream”. My mom thinks it will taste horrible. I think it could be interesting. But we never actually ordered it and so we still have no end to the debate. I recently finished up my good quality olive oil that I had around so I might need to buy a small amount of something really nice to try and make this gelato but I’m for sure going to give it a try. And I might try doing it as an ice cream as well because I would like to see the difference between the two with using a rather simple ingredient (which is also complex in flavor) like olive oil.

I never was a big fan of the Pinterest fads like “S’more this” and “Pumpkin that”. They just don’t seem to have a ton of substance too me. Not that the recipes are necessarily bad, just that the fact that suddenly everything has to be themed on some dish or treat that we enjoy once in a while seems pointless. But this is not one of those times. While I have begun to tune things like that out, this definitely caught my attention. Mostly because it looks like a massive pile of really good chocolate ice cream. And the idea of throwing in marshmallows and graham crackers is just diversifying the awesome. I’m not so sure about adding chocolate chips because I’m not big on large chunks of chocolate like that in my ice cream. So I might substitute brownies and call in a “S’more Brownie Ice Cream”. Seems like a good plan to me!
The thought that beer and ice cream and all that other yumminess could possible be in my mouth? Driving me a little insane right now. But there’s more! The Daily Waffle (I really do like saying that…) claimes that there are more recipes like this one in a book and so I have checked out the situation and there is, indeed, a book… And now I must own it. Because I’ve now seen some of the recipes in a sample up on Google Books and yes. They are ownership worthy in my current opinion. And my current opinion is that there should always be more awesome in the world. And awesome ice cream would just about solve any ailment I can think of in my life right now.
